Counterfeit Components Control Policy

Counterfeit components filtering into the supply chain are having a negative economic impact on the electronics industry. Based on a preview of various industry sources it is believed that approximately 30-35% of all components being sold today are counterfeit.

To address this problem, North Shore Components has implemented a proactive and comprehensive Counterfeit Electronic Parts Control Plan for the sourcing, procurement, detection and control of Electrical, Electronic, and Electromechanical parts purchased and sold from the Open Market. To help combat the spread of counterfeit components our plan addresses the following concerns:

Customer PO Review and Processing Guidelines – When in receipt of a customer purchase order all requirements shall be reviewed and approved before the creation of a North Shore Components purchase order. Due consideration shall be given to the sourcing of materials by a thorough review of industry sources such as GIDEP and ERAI.

Supplier Approval and Source Selection – No materials will be procured from unapproved sources. All Suppliers will be approved in accordance with customer and North Shore Components requirements. A register of all unapproved and approved Suppliers will be maintained, including the scope of their supply and the criteria for approval.

Purchasing Requirements and Guidelines – All applicable customer requirements shall be flowed down to the Supplier via a North Shore Components purchase order and/or our Terms and Conditions of Purchase. All Suppliers must acknowledge and confirm the understanding of such requirements before a purchase order will be placed.

Verification of Purchased Product – All materials received from the Open Market shall be inspected and tested to conform to the customer and or manufacturer specifications.

Material Control – All materials deemed to be suspect, fraudulent or confirmed counterfeit shall be processed in accordance with the requirements of our Counterfeit Electronic Parts Control Plan.

Reporting – All occurrences of suspect, fraudulent or confirmed counterfeit components shall be reported to internal personnel and/or as appropriate, to customers, Government reporting organizations, industry sources and or those Organizations having authority or jurisdiction to address such issues.

Personnel Training – All relevant personnel, including Top Management, Department Heads and Key Area Personnel will be trained as appropriate in the avoidance, detection, mitigation and disposition of suspect, fraudulent or confirmed counterfeit parts. All personnel approving the shipment of materials will be Certified Inspectors.

Quality Policy

As one of few stocking distributors to achieve ISO 9001 certification, ANSI/ESD S20.20 certification, CTI CCAP-101 certification, AS9120 certification, AS 6081 certification & AS5553 compliance, North Shore Components has developed unique quality control protocols and policies that set the gold standard for our industry.

As a standard business practice, our highly trained personnel utilize two levels of incoming inspection: a standard 72-point inspection to IDEA-STD-1010 conducted by trained and certified inspectors and CTI CCAP-101 certified inspections. Furthermore, strict adherence to ISO 9001 and AS9120 quality standards serves to ensure product integrity in support of cost-efficient and error-free inspection operation.

Our quality policy is based upon the combined efforts of all our employees, with a goal towards improving both the company and its services. Working closely with OEM and CEM customers, including those who are holding excess inventory, we are dedicated to continuous improvement of our system, from the interaction between our employees to the improvement of our services in order to enhance relationships with our customers.

In accordance with ISO 9001 standards, our daily conduct is driven by our quality manual that defines and describes our quality system, defines authorities and responsibilities of the management personnel involved in the operation of the quality system, and provides general procedures for all activities comprising the quality system. This manual serves to inform all customers and external interested parties regarding specific controls as well as quality control policies and procedures implemented at North Shore Components.

Environmental Policy

North Shore Components business model is based on the procurement, repackaging and distribution of electrical, electronic, and electro-mechanical board level components and assemblies. In addition, the utilization of counterfeit detection methods and tests to ensure electrical, electronic, and electro-mechanical board level components and assemblies are authentic to manufacturer specifications.

As a preferred supply chain partner for leading Original Equipment Manufacturers and Contract Manufacturers, we are committed to helping our customers fulfill their obligations for products free of hazardous materials in compliance with applicable environmental legislation, such as, but not limited to, EU RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC, EU WEEE Directive 2002-96-EC and Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH).

  • Operate all facilities in an environmentally responsible manner in compliance with environmental laws and regulations
  • Educate employees to be accountable for environmental stewardship and encourage them to seek innovative ways to improve the environmental aspects of our operations
  • Maintain compliance programs to inform and train employees in the performance of their duty to achieve the company’s environmental policies
  • Through audits and other means, monitor operations to help assure that practices in our workplaces conform to our policies and continually improve our environmental program

RoHS Compliance

In February 2003, the European Union adopted the Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) Directive that restricts the use of Lead (Pb), Cadmium, Mercury, Hexavalent Chromium, and PBB/PBDE flame retardant materials in certain classes of consumer electronic products sold throughout Europe. The RoHS directive took effect on July 1, 2006.

Identifying Pb-free materials employed in electrical and electronic equipment is critical to printed circuit board assembly, recycling, repair and rework, as Lead (Pb) is the most commonly used element restricted for use by the RoHS directive.
